eCall Emergency Services

In Europe alone more than 40.000 people every year die in road accidents. It's estimated that approximately 2.500 of these deaths could be prevented if there could be an automatic and immediate call for help. The extent of lasting injuries could also be reduced by over 15%. In the late 1990s the European Union started the eCall project which requires a telematic unit to be installed in every new car starting in 2012. Triggered by a crash sensor a message is forwarded over the GSM network to a Public Safety Answering Point which guides emergency services to the place of the accident. A push button is used to actively call for help. eCall is part of an action plan called eSafety which intends to lower mortalities by 50% before 2010.

OctoTelematics currently offers eCall services to 680.447 people who are using our telematic services. Beside the ability of detecting an accident in the most efficient way, we evaluate crash history by using our outstanding crash recorder technology. With the largest accident database on the planet we have developed algorithms to permanently improve sensor technology which is an important tool for saving lives on the roads.
